1 million Facebook posts on single comment is world record

GuinessWorldRecords.com

Does anything merit more than 1 million comments on Facebook? Perhaps the presidential race? Beyonce and Jay Z's baby? Photos of meerkats and other cute animals? How about Pioneer Trail (formerly known as FrontierVille)?

A fan group of the Facebook game set a new record Jan. 31 for having the most comments on a single post: 1,001,552.

The number is almost double last year's record, held by Roberto Esposito of Italy, says the Guinness World Records record-keeping site.

Winning the title wasn't based on a Pioneer Trail-related issue, but rather on the sheer volume and drive to be No. 1 when it came to comments posted.

Members of the Facebook group, Ffgpioneers, started their quest at the end of last October. "My friend Nattie Murphy saw the previous record and suggested I try to break it — it sounded like a great idea for our group to show what we are capable of when we work together," Tracey Hodgson of the United Kingdom told Guinness World Records.

(As administrator of the fan page, she notes that "while I don't actually play FrontierVille anymore, I've met some great people through playing it and love to be able to help them enjoy the game still.")

The post itself, from Hodgson, that got the comments:

hi all!!!, hope everyone is ok today , this is "the one", please talk about anything you like here, whatever you want to talk about, change topic whenever you like also, just have fun, . so how are you all today?( please someone speak quick or i'll have no nails left!!!) :-) xxx

Another team member, Cathy Matthews, who helped set the record, told Sacramento's FOX 40 TV station that she contributed by typing two-letter words over and over and over to count as posts (including the word "go").

While the title doesn't come with any money, it comes with a spot of fame.

Matthew said she thinks of it as "leaving my mark on the world .... because I'm really not a spring chicken anymore and I really haven't done anything phenomenal."

This might actually be newsworthy if it was 1,000,000 DIFFERENT posts but to have someone sitting there typing in 2 letter posts over and over again is just stupid why should this be considered a record?

this 'spot of fame' must be really tiny. i don't even recall the name of the person who got the new title (or who had the old title), and i just read this. but hey, congratulations anyway. i'm sure this record will come in handy.

now what say you figure out how to do something productive? like, i don't know... get me my five minutes back?

"Matthew said she thinks of it as 'leaving my mark on the world .... because... I am a total idiot with no life.'"

Fixed.

It goes along with people being friends with a charity. They feel good about it "Oh I support that group" and don't donate a dime.

OK, so the people who participated don't have a life, what about the people who keep track of stuff like this?

When I saw this headline, I had to read the article just to make sure that it was really about 1 million posts on a single comment.... stupid/:

I agree with JerkInCoolClothes ... how do I get my five minutes back?

WTF, the title of this article is all wrong!

"1 million Facebook posts on single comment is world record" - really??? how can you have posts to a comment? more like the other way around.

People, pay attention to details. Especially tech-related. This is DigitalLife, not some flower-growing blog... sheesh...

my friend nattie murphy saw the record and suggested to me to do it, so i said would be great to do this for our group-show what we are capable of when we work together.i admin in a gaming group and that's why i was inspired, to boost our group morale. i personally talked of many things, bands, songs, movies, all kinds of things, then someone had idea to read books, i read 3, and also alot of chatting in between lol, many did this also, and some boosted the numbers with two word repeated comments.we had over 107 help but many left the record group because the constant notifications lol, but was mostly 4 of us (including cathy matthews) at a time at the most commenting.was my friend ty suggested as we got close to 600 thousand comments we go for 1 million comments, and when i put to nattie we took to that idea quickly and went for it. it feels fantastic to have been able to do this for our group, my dear friend lhai macuha-well we stuck together in running the groups for over a year now, and i wouldn't still be doing it if not for her, so also good to do as a thank you to her. and am so pleased to have had nattie murphy work so hard with me on this-wouldn't have finished the record without her. i started to play frontierville because my daughter started it on my facebook lol, and i took over it, then moreso got into the helping side through the groups, i don't actually play it anymore, but love the people have met through it, and love to be able to help them enjoy the game still.- that is the full quote i actually sent the records people, they changed my words slightly but combined with the misleading story from huffpost with cathys interview people have got by far the wrong impression, this was never meant to go to the news and would not have done if not for one member-yes cathy was just a member who joined in after we spent couple of weeks organising and after about 6 days of us commenting -she was not not a claimant-going to the press because as she said she wanted to 'make her mark'. it was merely about showing our group what we can do when we work together out of friendship,it wasn't even anything to do with the game, the only reason i mentioned the game in my quote is the records people asked me about why i started playing, because of cathy mentioning it in her interview. if it was meant to go to the news-i would have put a more interesting worthwhile post to comment about.but in actual fact if this was designed to be a news headline i would have had nothing to do with it-i value my privacy and have no desire to be in the news, am just sick of people think they can judge by the words of a misleading tv interview i had no part in whatsoever. and have asked them to correct.we knew this would not be put in the record book because it's only a facebook record, and as said-it was not meant to be taken to the news people, that was the action of one member as soon as we hit 1 million comments ,that made it a mis-informed news story, i myself doubted this would be approved as a valid attempt because of the comments added by cathy and a few others that were short and repeated.many of those who took part in this have jobs, children, families and otherwise more important things to do with their time which is why at any one time during the attempt were no more than maybe 4 of us commenting-i never said was the same 4 constantly-it was not, and there were many times when nobody was commenting for some period of time. i only mentioned cathy as an acknowledgement of her part in it all.now a well meant attempt simply to boost our groups morale has been made to look like a sad bunch of people trying to hit news by 'cheating' (and by the way-the record people were asked if the repeated commenting of 2 letter words was permitted and we were told yes-though i still continued to comment by reading and chatting)their way into the record book-well it is true what they say-you should not judge a book by it's cover and those who have over this should be ashamed of themselves.this is standard comment in response to all the false information being posted across the internet.
