Screenshot of Mitt Romney's latest fan gains on Facebook
While the political focus of the country is trained on Iowa — where tomorrow the Republican caucuses will give the rest of the nation an idea of who will emerge as the favored Republican presidential candidate — eyes trained on Facebook will find Mitt Romney with the most fans, but Rick Santorum with the most recent uptick in fans, up 22.6 percent.
Social media statisticians Socialbakers have created a microsite for gauging Facebook fans' of the presidential candidates, and which ones are gaining and losing fans, whose fans are commenting the most (and with whom), as well as what they're saying to their fans.
Sitting president Barack Obama has the most fans on Facebook, by a comfortable margin: 24.3 million to runner-up Romney, with 1.26 million. But Romney has about twice as many fans as third-place Ron Paul, with 672,483.
Santorum has had the biggest lift recently, up nearly 23 percent, but that still only leaves him with 40,816 fans.
In much of the way social media mirrors debates all over the country, Romney and Paul's fans are neck and neck in engaging with their candidates' on their Facebook pages, and Paul's Facebook page is especially vocal with his fans, with nearly 3,000 comments. On the other end of engagement is Santorum's Facebook page, with only 63 comments.
We'll find out soon enough if what we see on Facebook reflects the contenders in the upcoming presidential race.

Great information. Tells it all. Makes me proud. You all can bet the bank that our prez will have a second term. Just hope can regain a majority in the house, keep the senate, and we will start seeing the hope and change we all voted for originally. Damned republicans.
We can't take four more years of the donkey (not my first choice in terms, but close enough) in the White House. Not if there is ever any hope that the country can regain the greatness it once had. I still have to wonder if they got rid of the corruption that got his name on the ballot in a couple of states to begin with if he would have made it this far. Take a look at Illinois - he represents the same values and ridiculous ideas - keep spending, keep spending and put more of the burden on the tax payers - well guess what - it isn't working for Illiniois. 2012 is shaping up to be the worst year I can remember in my 50+ years of life.
Olrockcandymtnroustabout you are delusional! Obama has successfully outdone W. as worst president of our lifetime!
And on another note. I love how these media hacks are still insisting to refuse to acknowledge Ron Paul even though Paul is winning in a majority of the polls and has a massive amount of supporters.
Let's not forget that if you vote for a democrat or a republican that you are only voting for the same wolf in a different sheep suit. If you want real hope and real change then stop voting for who the main stream media lapdogs are telling you to vote for. None of these people have our best interest in mind! Ron Paul is not and cannot be bought out and will do what really needs to be done to turn this country around and fix our problems!
How long has each page been active? How many candidates had active facebook pages before running for President.
Obama has an impressive following, but the article doesn't state how long each persons page has been up.
It also doesn't say how many of those fans are United States Citizens. Facebook is international and therefore doesn't reflect true voting fans. I'm sure there are a lot of Arab fans on his fb page!
Snow, I believe you hit the nail on the head.
Are you trying to see how low you can go with your comment? I think the President gave a special friendship to Bin Laden.
Don't worry folks you can all blame Obama for 4 more years!!! The only contribution the right has made since the last election after all is destroying our liberties and dodgeing accountability. Obama Vs Clown... No contest!
DonkeyHoty...you haven't been paying attention!

lol sounds like the Repubs are too busy working and paying taxes to support the Libs sitting at home taking those taxes and playing on facebook
Another right-on comment.
Obama = Nothing Accomplished!
I clicked on a link which said: "Which candidate tops FB?" I hate acronyms since I thought it meant "Which candidate tops F*#*ing Barrack?"
This is such bs. A liberal , e-based media saying that BO has 24 to 1 lead over his nearest rival. It seems the libs will continue to lie to keep their toy in office. This is such slanted and bias reporting, Facebook do you have no shame!
Maybe some peope just "Liked" his page to see how he might F@#$% Us next....Me...I'm in lust with Ron Paul...and I WOULD tell his wife
RON PAUL 2012!!!!!!
Just remember that under the U.S.Constitution, regular citizens don't vote for President or Vice President. Only the Electoral College of people do. That is why it is very important to vote for representatives and senators to counter a very powerful president that is elected by these money people.
Obama may be the favorite of Facbook fans, but thankfully, everybody on Facebook aren't Americans! So, I'm gonna take this with a grain of salt! America needs a third party to keep the two we have under control! Democrats, Republicans...same @!$%#, different pile!
No Mo obscumbo
NOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ONE AND DONE 2012
Obama wins in 2012 . . . count on it! However, today marks the beginning of the obligatory Republican circus. There is no way in hell that any of those clowns stand a chance of becoming President! Thank God! However, I do see that as more people understand this, (the key-board commandos in particular) their rhetoric, prejudices, and ignorance only increases! LOL How pathetic!
I am a demoncrat but I can't stand Obama. His healthcare ill must be completely dismantled. He neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds to go. Those of you who are his cheerleaders are either NOT taxpayers or home owners or you could be just part of the illegal immigrant sub-society that is living on my dime. That being said Romney scares the hell out of me. I don't know if it is his arrogance or his smugness, maybe it is just that creepy 'do you want some candy little girl' smile of his, he just plain creeps me out. His health plan is as bad or worse than Obama's. He has flip-flopped on everything but his birthday.
You have got to be joking. When an honest person runs for president then I will go out and vote. Until then all I see are the best criminals in the world running our government. I won't vote for someone who isn't honest and sincerely cares about our great nation. Stand up and fight folks. Obama don't care!
I still don't understand all the hoopla about Iowa. The amount of people who vote in that state equal the total of some counties in other states. What's the big deal in that? They also haven't picked a winner for the White House in decades. Last time around their candidate was Mike Huckabee who wasn't even the eventual pick, John McCain was their fourth place pick. To me it's all a waste of time but the news media, especially MSNBC, acts like it's the second coming of Christ, especially for Chuck Todd and his nonsensical polls.
I know right! I can't wait until the Rhode Island Caucus of Log Cabin Republicans starts getting their much due publicity. I took the whole week off from work to see that one, lol!!!
whats FB stand for .. full of bulls&*t. if it did the graph would be sky high with all these bozos.
kkkk Obama ONE AND DONE 2012... by : "the men wont never the best men..."rss Its the our life...!
