Good ol' 2011 is almost over and that means we've got some "end of the year" lists coming our way. One of my favorites? YouTube's list of the top ten most watched videos.
Yes, viewing all these videos at once feels like submerging one's head in a bathtub chock full of highly viral ear worms, but it's still a neat look at what entertained, horrified and mesmerized us over the last year.
According to the official YouTube blog, there were more than 1,000,000,000,000 — that's one trillion! — playbacks on the video sharing service this year. (That apparently breaks down to about 140 video views for every person on Earth, in case you're wondering.)
The folks at YouTube took a look at all those playbacks, threw out the ones connected to videos from major music labels, and figured out which ten clips captured the most eyeballs globally.
Rebecca Black's "Friday," a music video we love to hate, tops that list despite temporarily disappearing from YouTube at one point. She's followed by a dog who can't stop thinking about food, a catchy tune by the boys of Lonely Island (with Michael Bolton), some babbling babies, and other gems.
You can check out the full list below, but please keep in mind that some of the linked videos may contain language or content that isn't appropriate for children or work environments.
- Rebecca Black - Friday - Official Music Video
- Ultimate Dog Tease
- Jack Sparrow (feat. Michael Bolton)
- Talking Twin Babies - PART 2 - OFFICIAL VIDEO
- Nyan Cat [original]
- Look At Me Now - Chris Brown ft. Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes (Cover by @KarminMusic)
- The Creep (feat. Nicki Minaj & John Waters)
- Maria Aragon - Born This Way (Cover) by Lady Gaga
- The Force: Volkswagen Commercial
- Cat mom hugs baby kitten
Watched all of the videos? Great! Hit the comments below and tell us what you think about the list. Is it missing some of your favorite videos? Are you shocked that some received so many views? Are you still crying because you can't get "Friday" out of your head?

Sigh! I guess it's time to suffer through another round of Top Ten articles. Why do we bother with these ridiculous lists? So boring...
There you have it - society in a nutshell.
They watched it, just like people can't resist rubbernecking at an accident or a train wreck. It does not mean that you like what you are seeing.
Way to go Rebecca Black! I don't understand how people could hate that song. It's pure gold, if you ask me.
Just as much gold as the dump I took this morning.
But seriously, people like to stare at train wrecks......and that abomination of a song is THE train wreck of the century
lol I know. For what it is supposed to be, a bubblegum teen tune, it's awesome. I think she did a good job and I think the production outfit did a good job. Notice when you walk away from it, it stays in your head. It's downright catchy tune and the number of views proves it. For those who say all the views came from people wanting to see how terrible it was, I say it get's played over and over by teenagers, which it ITS INTENDED CROWD. Screw what the adults say. It was never meant for them. For all these adults to hammer it is like is like trying to take candy from a baby. Shame on them for critiquing a song that was never intended for them to begin with. That must mean they all watch the Disney channel and are kiddie pop connoisseurs lolll. Why else would they complain about a kids tune not meant for them. It's baffling.
Rebecca Black... please just stab me in the ears with a pencil instead.
People love to check out car accidents, plane crashes, train wrecks, etc. That's why Rebecca Black was so popular.
Rebecca Black is proof that in this country you don't need a shred of talent to be popular in music.
Numbers 2, 4, 9 and 10 are great. The rest are dreck.
And some people still refuse to believe the Apocalypse is almost here.....
I can't believe Rebecca Black made it to the list. For someone who can't sing worth crap, she sure has had a lot of hits to her youtube video.
That's because people had to see it to believe how bad it was.
C'mon, haters! Simply wash your ears out with five minutes of Nyan Cat and the Black "Friday" is all gone - leaving you free to enjoy "Ultimate Dog Tease" again! WIN!!!
The mum hugs kitten one is the best. Just saw it for the first time and it made my whole year. Sweetness defined.
